Pixcadia Questions & Answers

How do I buy Pixcadia?

Buying Pixcadia gets you our first game "Pixcadia: Kittykaki's Dream" currently! This is our main game focus right now. But you can't buy it yet!!! Right now it's exclusive to our NFT holders. You can find more information about that on the wallet page.

Once it's available for direct sale it will start at $5!!!

What is Pixcadia: Kittykaki's Dream?

It's a fusion of a few game genres we enjoy… it's a game we want to play that didn't exist yet! Part looter shooter… part extraction shooter… PVE… with some struggling… high powered epic weapons to find… cute things to collect… fun things to progress… varied zones… insane bosses… it's a game you'll have to try for yourself!

PC builds?

We may distribute Win/Mac/Linux builds in the future. Right now our focus is to continue to develop the game with the web version.

Does this game support multiplayer?

Yeah! You can go to the fireteam console and create a lobby or join a lobby of a friend. When you play coop everyone gets all of the drops so if someone gets a shiny you all get a shiny… as long as at least one of you extracts! Note: If one of you escapes… they leave with their loot, but nothing extra that the team would have got after… and escapes don't guarantee the rest of the team their loot either! The default connectivity is with web-sockets. This adds a little bit of latency to the multiplayer relay server but it also protects your IP address from others. If you're playing with friends that you trust you can all enable WebRTC in the game's misc settings. This will enable you to bypass the relay server and connect directly, and if you all live near each other the latency should be very low. Also, this being a web version, you should keep the game in its own window and not in a tab with others, if you go to another tab that's not the game the game won't be allowed to keep running and you may disconnect from the team! Especially bad if you are the host!

Does this game have PVP?

Nada. At least not currently. There are no plans to add PVP in expeditions, it's a PVE game. The game is designed to be played alone or with friends. But we may add optional just-for-fun PVP modes in the future… we'll see!

Is this a live service game?

Nope. We want it to be a game that can be played forever as long as someone has a copy still. Eventually we'll be "done" working on this game, and though it may get some updates after it will be Mostly Finished. Right now we use online server based web services to handle multiplayer connectivity but if/when we release PC versions they should be able to enable you to host directly and connect to others with normal networking. Even on a LAN!

Can I try the game before I buy?

Yeah! There is a "prologue" demo version here! It will let you play the first zone and let you see if you like the game / if it runs well on your computer. You can even try playing coop multiplayer with it! This demo version does not save progress (which means when you buy you will start over) and it won't be updated (that often) either. The demo also ends when you extract so don't rush to extract in the demo!

The game doesn't run well on my browser!

The game uses web-assembly to run… if your CPU is throttled the game may run slower than expected. Other than that, the game should work on basically any potato computer. It should even work on mobile tablets! You can even play it with a gamepad on mobile tablets!

You can try this benchmark on your browser to see if your CPU is throttling your browser:

https://browserbench.org/JetStream/

A great score is around 400. An average score might be around 200-300. A very bad score would be around 50 and that would mean the game probably isn't playable on your device. Such a low score can mean either your CPU is being throttled or your device is too old.

If the game/demo doesn't even run at all it can mean webgl or web-assembly is not supported in your browser, and you'll need to either use another browser/device or wait for a possible PC/console release to play.

Are my saves saved in the cloud?

Currently they are not. This means you can't easily bring your saves between browser devices (technically possible but requires some know how). There may also be periodic forced wipes of saves. We plan on adding cloud saves when we're ready to, but it will not happen until we're confident we won't do more save wipes. We're still developing this game, and so save wipes can be a way for us to get good feedback on the game from the start again. It's also in the spirit of the sort of genre the game is in as sort of a casual extraction shooter.

If your game never saves check your extensions / settings to see if you have anything that's blocking normal browser saving!

Pressing Ctrl+W closes my browser tab!

Unfortunately… this is something browser companies have hard coded to not be something games can prevent. Your options are to remap the crouch key, play with a gamepad, or play in fullscreen (where this behavior doesn't happen). We added a "Are you sure you want to close?" thing just to prevent accidentally closing the game while not in fullscreen mode due to this limitation.

The game doesn't go into fullscreen properly!

Known issue on some versions of Brave. Let us know if you see this happen with other browsers / monitor conditions.

Can I play offline?

Once you load the game fully, you should be able to, though obviously online coop won't work. Just don't refresh the page and you should be fine to keep playing offline!

Will the game be released on X or Y console?

We may release our Pixcadia games individually on various consoles/platforms later on, such as Steam or even major gaming consoles. These versions will be able purchased on their own as individual titles. So if you want to play on any other platform we publish our Pixcadia games on you will need to buy them on those platforms again.

The people I am playing with are cheating!!!

The game is designed to not require a server to play. This means people can cheat if they are clever and ruin the fun of the game. You should only play with people you trust to not ruin your experience by cheating!

I have questions not answered here!!!

Inside of the game you can find a tutorial menu and a dictionary of terms used in the game. The game is meant to be explored on your own though without forced tutorials or learning absolutely everything before you even start playing so go play the game and learn through playing!!!

What are @handles?

Every Pixcadia account has a handle! Until you claim a custom one, yours is automatic (something like @u42). If you own a game or have an active games pass you can claim a custom @handle from your account settings: 5-15 characters, letters, numbers, and underscores, and each handle is unique. Games use your handle to greet you when you connect!

Note: handles are only for Pixcadia. They will not transfer to other Oekaki Connect sites or services.
